You Should Be Dry Brushing!

What is Dry Brushing and why should you be doing it? Dry brushing is just as it sounds, brushing your skin with a body brush (Natural Boar brush or massage brush) while your skin is dry, preferably pre-shower or bath. Dry brushing your skin has many health benefits besides exfoliation. Stimulating the lymphatic system will decrease fluid buildup, swelling, help detoxify the body and even decrease stress hormones! Dry brushing also improves circulation which is especially important for the legs and feet where blood circulation is weaker. Brushing the abdominal and stomach areas will aid in digestion aiding over all health and detoxification. Brushing also breaks up cellulite and fat deposits making them easier for your body to break them down, the boosted lymphatic system and circulation will also help this process. So how do I do it? Here's a guide on directions to brush, always begin at the feet and work up, hands and work in, always toward the heart.

There is a few "Don'ts" when it comes to dry brushing. Do not brush over broken skin or wounds! This can slow healing and introduce bacteria that lives naturally on the skin into wounds causing infections. Don't brush hard enough to irritate the skin, a medium massage pressure is all that is needed. Do use a natural boar bristled brush (the preferred), or a massaging head brush. How often should you brush? Ideally once a day is recommended. It may look very time consuming at first glance, but once you get your routine down, it can be done it minutes.
